The Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Festival |
| History and Mission |
| Dr. Leonard Falcone was a pioneering exponent of the Baritone/Euphonium and a longtime professor at Michigan State University. The Falcone Festival was founded by several of his former students in 1986, the year after this death, to honor his memory. Held annually, the festival includes four divisions of solo competitions for euphonium and tuba that are internationally recognized and highly competitive. The Festival provides a continuing testimony to the profound influence of Dr. Leonard Falcone upon the lives of his students and the extraordinary level of artistry he achieved throughout his career on the instrument he loved. |
| The Objectives of the Festival Are: |
| • To promote the highest level of artistry on the Euphonium and Tuba • To encourage young musicians to study the Euphonium and Tuba • To enhance the repertoire of the Euphonium and Tuba by commissioning original compositions, transcriptions and arrangements • To present master classes and performances by distinguished Euphonium and Tuba artists • To foster an increased awareness and appreciation for the Euphonium and Tuba by the general public |
| The Festival |
| The Falcone Festival is held each summer, over a four day period, and has been housed since its inception at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Michigan. In addition to the competition aspect of the Festival, participants are offered the opportunity to attend master classes and recitals provided by internationally recognized euphonium/tuba artists.
