Euphonium Artist Eligibility

Participants must not be a full-time paid professional (euphonium, trombone, or tuba) in either a performance position or a college teaching position at the time of the competition.There is no age limitation, and participants may be of any sex, race or nationality.

Recordings

NEW: The Festival will accept MP3 or MP4 recordings for the 2013 competition. The submitted recording must contain no spoken words nor identifying information in the title, etc. Recordings should be made with a high degree of integrity that represents your best musical interpretation and effort. Remember that at the Festival you will be playing live without the luxery of correcting errors.

MP3 files must not exceed 15MB.

Deadlines

Early Submission

Early submission applications AND recordings must be received by midnight (Eastern Daylight Time) March 15, 2013.
Early submission artist fee is $65 (USD). The fee for written comments on your recording is an additional $40 (USD).

Regular Submission

Regular submission applications AND recordings must be received by midnight (Eastern Daylight Time) March 31, 2013.
Regular submission artist fee is $95 (USD). The fee for written comments on your recording is an additional $40 (USD).

Application process

There are two steps to this process

FIRST: Applications and fees are accepted online ONLY. Only credit cards are accepted; if you do not have a credit card, you will need to contact Sue Topping. At the successful completion of the application process, each applicant will receive a unique confirmation number. Save this number.

SECOND: Send your MP3 or MP4 recording to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , using your confirmation number in the subject line of the email AND as the filename of the recording.

Your application for the 2013 Falcone Festival WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED COMPLETE until we have received your application, payment, and recording.

Notification of Semi-Finalists and Receipt of Comments

Notification of semi-finalists should occur by May 1, 2013. Comments will be sent by the end of May 2013.

Preliminary Round

Helen Johnston: Carissima Mia, Complete with piano (Level Music Publishing)
NOTE: Suggested corrections to the printed part(s) (pdf)

Record entire work with piano (where applicable)

MP3 or MP4 files only - no other form of recorded media will be accepted.

Please avoid any labeling of a personal nature on the MP3/MP4 file (name, initials, image, etc.)

Recordings of poor audio quality will not be evaluated.

Semi-final Round

Unaccompanied Music:
Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen: Svart Regn/Black Rain (Norsk Noteservice AS)

Accompanied Music:
Rolf Wilhelm: Concertino for Euphonium and Piano (Trio Musik Edition) Movements 1 & 3

Semi-finalists MUST bring all semi-final and final round piano scores to the competition.

Final Round

John Stevens: Concerto for Euphonium (Editions Bim) Movements 2 & 3

Finalists MUST bring all final round piano scores to the competition.

Artists whose final round is with the band do not need to bring piano scores.

Euphonium Artist Awards

1st Prize - $2,500 (USD) - Leonard Falcone Tribute

2nd Prize - $1,200 (USD) - Seymour & Faye Okun Prize

3rd Prize - $750 (USD) - Sponsored by Douglas and Jane Goodrich
