Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Festival Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) 2026
Last Updated: January 23, 2026
Q: If the preliminary music required for my division is either multiple movements or multiple pieces, do I have to send in just one file or may I send in several files?
A: We will accept only one video file.
Q: Can I record multiple movements at two separate times and then combine them into one video?
A: You may record movements separately and combine them into one video, although we urge you to use a consistent hall or room to avoid getting different acoustics in the different locations.
Q: I cannot afford or do not have access to a studio to video record my performance. Will that preclude me from advancing to the semi-final round?
A: Absolutely not! The preliminary judges are experienced musicians, and they listen critically to your performance no matter what method of recording you use. (Reminder that only a non- adjudicator will verify recording integrity before blind evaluation by judges, ensuring competitor anonymity throughout the process.)
Q: May I edit my recording?
A: No. Editing is not permitted.
Q: I plan to do the recording on my own. Any hints you can provide?
A: Refer to Recording Guidelines which contains suggestions for you.
Q: Do you have any general recommendations for potential applicants?
A: Refer to Recording Guidelines which contains additional suggestions in addition to the following.
• Make a video recording and listen to it. Are you pleased with your sound and the balance with piano (if required)? If not, make adjustments until you are pleased. Record yourself as often as necessary for you to feel comfortable.
- Take advantage of performing the piece live for an audience. Your private instructor will be able to help you find venues, such as churches or other students.
- Get organized. Schedule the pianist (if necessary) and figure where you will record. Don’t necessarily plan on getting the recording done in one session.
- If you are applying in one of the student divisions, be sure you meet the age requirement (your birthday is 9/1/2006 or more current). So, if you answer the question “How old will I be on September 1, 2026?” with the answer “20”, you are not eligible to apply in either student division. Proof of age is required (scanned passport photo page, birth certificate, driver’s license, or officially issued government ID that includes date of birth) in file no larger than 500 KB. Get your file ready early.
- Additional information you will be asked to provide is on the Falcone Festival website under Competition Overview and Application Process. Be prepared to provide it as part of the registration process, prior to uploading necessary file/s (video file plus proof of age, if a student division applicant).
- Remember the email address you use to register and submit your materials, as we communicate by email!
- If you will not have a MasterCard or Visa credit card available for your application fee, contact Scott Myckowiak, treasurer), prior to March 28, 2026, preferably earlier!
- PLEASE do not wait until the last moment to complete your application and upload your video recording and proof of age (if applying in one of the student divisions). If you run into problems at the last minute, you will have no leeway. The absolute deadline (application, video recording, and payment of fees) is March 31, 2026 at 11:59pm, based on your own time zone! This deadline WILL NOT BE EXTENDED. Give yourself plenty of time.
